McGurk Architects are firmly committed to energy efficiency, reducing fuel poverty, and effectively responding to climate change. We promote sustainable development and work actively to reduce the carbon footprint of our buildings through strategic design choices, latest technologies, selecting sustainable locally sourced materials and considering life-cycle costs.
Our ISO 14001 certification underscores our commitment to measuring, monitoring, and improving our environmental performance. We collaborate with companies that share our sustainability ethos, including our Building Services Engineers and BREEAM assessors. Together, we've exceeded regulatory requirements for sustainability in projects like the New Gate Arts Centre, achieving BREEAM excellent standards and aiming to replicate this success in future projects.

As Certified Passive House Designers, we adhere to the fundamental Passive House principles of insulation, airtightness, ventilation, and mitigating thermal bridging. By integrating these principles into all of our projects, we enhance their overall quality, resulting in energy-efficient homes and public buildings with minimal energy consumption.
In a society, where rising energy costs dominate the news, aiming for Passive standard will drastically reduce these costs whilst increasing energy efficiency and comfort for our clients.

At McGurk Architects, we strive to make a positive impact on our people, our communities, and our society. We prioritise social value, providing a supportive work environment for our staff and engaging with local businesses, community groups, and charities through sponsorship, volunteering, and outreach programs. We actively involve local school children in projects like 'Connecting Pomeroy' and the Sperrin Sculptural Trail, and support work experience, placements, and apprenticeships to foster future talent.
