McGurk Architects successfully obtained planning permission for the redevelopment of Ballykinlar GAC and adjacent Ministry of Defence lands, into the future home of Down GAA in 2022.
This project creates a new hub for the achievement of sports excellence and promoting community engagement. The new facilities include a state-of-the-art sports stadium, four full size GAA playing fields, an indoor Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and walking trail.
Down GAA Centre of Excellence
Ballykinlar, County Down.
An integral part of this development is the addition of a museum and interpretative centre. This space will pay homage to the rich history of Ballykinlar, showcasing Down GAA's storied past, alongside the site's historical significance. From its role as a training base for WW1 military personnel, to its use as an internment camp during the Irish Civil War, every aspect of Ballykinlar's heritage will be celebrated.
