Citation from UK Association of Optician’s Practice of the Year 2018

“The practice is spacious with a stylish interior. It exudes an aura of calm and gives the client confidence that Sinead McGurk Opticians are professional and can deliver their services with flair.  The owner has considered everything which is pertinent in the patient’s Optometry experience; this is of the highest standard.

The practice’s small but dedicated team are outstanding. They develop a professional relationship with clients in a friendly, welcoming manner, ensuring that they can fulfil their requirements with products and services, whilst paying attention to detail at all times.”

The design involved the alteration and adaptation of 4-6 Queen Street in the centre of Magherafelt to provide new premises for the optical practice. The redesign and alteration gives consideration to the quaint proportions and old world charm of its predecessor, while creating a striking new frontage for visitors accessing the town centre via the A31. The ground and first floor elevation treatments are entirely different, yet highly complementary to each other. Copper shingle panels top a rustic base of layered stone, which has minimal asymmetrical windows inserted mirroring its precedent’s solid to void cottage proportions. The interior utilises some of the material palette from the exterior with copper finishes on the reception desk and displays. Walnut flooring and wall panelling along with the Roman red brick cladded wall compliment the tonal qualities of the outer façade and help ensure a holistic building finish.
