Newforge Community Complex
This regeneration project of the existing Newforge Sports Club off the Malone Road in South Belfast is comprised of conference rooms, a restaurant and wellbeing services, along with 4G synthetic and grass sports playing surfaces. The design for the regeneration of Newforge is made up of four zones.
Zone one’s soccer stadium perimeter fencing and building enclose a FIFA two-star 4G playing surface, 500 capacity seated terrace, control rooms and public amenities on a solid black brick base, concrete terrace and vibrant yellow seating. The first floor accommodation is wrapped in a crisp white Swisspearl fibre cement rainscreen capped by the cantilevered metal roofed canopy.
The largest built element of the whole complex, zone two, is made up of three distinct parts. To the north, the 3200 square metre indoor arena is covered in a lightweight translucent membrane anchored to the ground via a vertical board marked concrete base. To the south, the strength and conditioning, fitness and health suites are naturally lit through a curved curtain walling system made of Dampalon, a translucent polycarbonate membrane which splits the vertical board marked concrete finish of this wing.
The entrance to the building hosts the changing rooms, café, offices, shared reception and associated amenities clad at ground level in three different shades of green Swisspearl rainscreen and at first floor level in hardwood timber louvers.
Zone three consists of flood lit hockey and 5-a-side pitches and synthetic surfaces whose coloured finishes have helped add vibrancy to the scheme design. Zone four is made up of bowling greens and parking facilities, which serve the whole complex.
The scheme has full planning approval and is pending funding.
