Belfast, County Antrim.

McGurk Architects were originally retained by Newforge Country Club to achieve planning permission for the redevelopment of the Sports campus at Newforge Lane off the Malone Road in South Belfast. Phase one’s soccer/ rugby stadium is a FIFA two-star 4G synthetic playing surface. The stadium building includes a cantilevered seated terrace, control rooms and public amenities on a rendered base. The recently completed site works element also includes two MUGA’s and a synthetic hockey playing area to FIH standards. The practices design for the SEUPB grant aided Phase 2 is a 3200 square metre indoor arena covered in a lightweight translucent membrane anchored to the ground via a vertical board marked concrete base. The entrance block to the building hosts changing rooms, café, offices, reception, a conference area and associated amenities. It is clad at ground level in three different shades of green fibre cement rainscreen and at first floor level in hardwood timber.
