Heron Bros Ltd.
This unique extensive office development involved a substantial addition to the rear of a listed property, which fronts onto St. Patrick Street, Draperstown, next to the company’s existing headquarters. With the business landlocked on all sides, the firm were forced to “go underground” beneath Cahore Terrace to provide the extra suite of offices, conference and meeting rooms they needed to develop the business.
The new build three storey, 1468 square metre extension to the rear provides training rooms, canteen and office space for 48 employees. It will be linked to the existing Heron Bros office building via an underground tunnel, which borrows legitimacy from catacombs, which can still be evidenced on the site.
The listed build has been treated sensitively with minimal intervention and preservation of all key architectural and historic features, with a glass link providing vital segregation between the old and the new.
The extension has been designed with a simple modern palette of render, timber and glass, chosen to be respectful of the original listed building.
