Best Medium to Large Biogas Plant 2020

Renewable Energy

Granville Eco Park is Northern Ireland’s first eco park. The development delivers eco-credits equivalent to removing 16,000 cars off the road and powering over 8,000 homes with renewable electricity. Granville Eco Park (GEP) creates valuable, renewable products by utilising food waste as a resource. The plant’s Anaerobic Digestor creates a rich Organic Fertiliser called ‘Digestate’ and captures a ‘Biogas’ to generate Renewable Electricity for the National Grid, to be used in homes and businesses. As of October 2020, GEP had successfully diverted over 349,000 tonnes of food waste from landfill. McGurk Architects were employed to deliver an extension to house a waste incinerator which deals with the packaging of incoming food waste product.
