Black Mountain Shared Space Project

This intra-community capacity building promotes cross-community good relations in the Upper Springfield/Upper Shankill area of Belfast.

The building offers new opportunities and resources to the local area, providing spaces for enterprise, business, performing arts, education, leisure, work, play and enjoyment of the local area. The aim is to maximise and capitalise upon the potential of the area and offer opportunities for learning and development regardless of age, race, creed or background. It is important that positive benefits are created, but equally that none of the existing resources in the community are displaced. The new shared space offers large bright welcoming spaces which are orientated to frame views of the surrounding areas with places for socialising and sharing ideas, interests and opinions. Different amenities have been coupled with these views to maximise the potential for enjoyment and appreciation of the surroundings.

Planning permission was granted on Tuesday 21 March 2017.
