Áras Uí Chonghaile wins the RSUA’s Liam McCormick Prize for Building of the Year 2022.

  • We are absolutely delighted to have won the Liam McCormick Prize – Building of the Year 2022 at the RSUA Design Awards for our project Áras Uí Chonghaile / James Connolly Visitor Centre. The project also won an RSUA Design Award, Integration of Art Award and Fergal Rainey won Project Architect of the Year 2022.

Áras Uí Chonghaile reconnects James Connolly with the people of West Belfast, a few hundred yards from where he once lived. His legacy is provided through a varied and enriched learning experience over four exhibition spaces, a library, cafe, offices and a conferencing facility. The retrofit project was constructed within 6 months and has been designed to answer a complex brief; to reconnect a disconnected building, to be protective yet welcoming, progressive yet respectful of the city’s built heritage, all within a restricted £760k budget.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the project who worked so hard to make the project such a success.
